MY HEALTH CHART
My Health Chart is an app that allows users to organize and keep user’s medical records on their mobile device conveniently. Users can check and see their medical records anytime, anywhere. The app is primarily designed for adults between the ages of 25 and 70.
The problem
Many people keep their hospital records in paper folder files and organize them. However, it can be difficult to access them when they suddenly need their health records due to a sudden abnormality in the body while traveling or on a business trip. Also, the older you get, the more health records you have, and organizing them all and having them at home can be a big burden. In addition to the problem of keeping files, There is a need for a way for people to quickly request and receive their health records from the hospital because It is not very pleasant for office workers to leave work to pick their health records up while working.
The goal
Although organizing and storing medical records is a tedious and unpleasant task, I want to create an app that makes it easy and simple to request, receive and organize medical records. Also I want users can easily make a hospital appointment at any time without being constrained by time.
March 2023 to May 2023
Duration
UX designer leading the app and responsive website design from conception to delivery.
My role
Conducting research interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studie, accounting for accessibility, iterating on designs and responsive design.
Responsibilityes
User research
I conducted user interviews. Many people know that they can receive and organize their hospital records and Lab results through the web or app, and they say that they have used them. However, it is said that they do not use it well because of the complicated procedures and unfamiliar processes.
As people get older, they tend to find it more familiar and convenient to go to the hospital, fill out simple documents and get them right away, or visit again a few days later to pick up the health record and organize it in a paper folder. However, if they don’t organize it right away, it will be very annoying to find and organize all those documents later.
In the case of hospital appointment, it is more convenient to use the web or app than over the phone, but not all hospitals or clinics provide such a service, so there are many cases that appointments are made over the phone.
Accessibility : Since not all hospitals and clinics provide app or web services, Users have to organize the health records they pick up from hospitals in a separate folder. So even if users use the app, there must be another paper folder.
Time : The time it took to request and receive medical records did not make much difference whether users used the app or visited and brought them. However, if users use the app, they receive it as a digital file without having to go pick it up.
Technical Jargon : The titles on the web and app are a little unfamiliar and there are difficult names, so They were worried that they might make a mistake and choose the wrong one.

Competitive audit
Crazy 8
I did the Crazy 8 exercise to get more diverse ideas freely.
Sitemap
Many users find it more confusing and complex due to too many categories and options. Therefore, I spent a lot of time choosing the most important categories that users might need the most and started building the structure.
The basic structure and categories based on the sitemap were made into paper wireframes.
Paper wireframes
After ideating and drafting some paper wireframes, I created the initial designs for the My Health Chart. The homepage shows main four categories which are medical departments, Lab & Exam, medication, and medical expense. I made pages for users’ basic health status and the medication that they are taking so they can see them at a glance when they visit the hospital or when they need to track their health records.
Digital Wireframes
Usability study
Study type : Unmoderated usability study
Location : Los Angeles, Remote
Participants : 5 Participants
Length : 30-40 minutes
Parameters
Convenience Factor : Participants would like to have a “Default setting” section to input their doctor’s information and repeated information.
Confirmation : Participants would like to know when they will receive an appointment confirmation email and the confirmation number on the confirmation pop-up box.
Filtering : Participants would like to check several available dates and times easily before they make an appointment. They’d like to see a calendar to check day of week too.
Ordering : Participants want to be able to organize their files by year as well.
Findings
Mockups 01
Based on usability study, I made year category for folder so users don’t have to scroll up and down all the way to find old visiting file. They need to click the year section and see each year’s file to click.
Mockups 02
I made a default button. Users can save their doctor’s information as default and use it later by clicking on the default button instead of filling out the form again.
Mockups 03
I show a four-step process on the appointment page so users know where they are. I also made an easy clickable calendar for users. They just need to click the month, year, and day to see availability.
Mockups 04
I put a confirmation number and notice about confirmation email on the pop-up box to let users know that the process is done well.
Mockups
The designs for screen size variation included mobile, tablet, and laptop. I optimized the designs to fit specific user needs of each device and screen size.
Responsive designs
Since it deals with medical records, multiple language service is needed for accuracy. I put a language section on menu.
Accessibility considerations
Clear labels for interactive elements that can be read by screen readers.
I made headings with different sized text for clear visual hierarchy.
It took less time and effort and they could always check and manage it alone easily. They request their health document through this app, and get them from the hospital and store them on this app.
Impact
What I learned
Although what is needed varies by age group, after hearing the opinions of the people that visited the hospital the most, it was possible to solve many things by researching and including the opinions of others.
